400 Skeptical Scientists Doubt Man-made Global Warming Claims
.: U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works :: Minority Page :.
I know my views on Climate Change have been posted ad nauseum, so I'll try to contain myself. I would like to know your opinions on this article. In the past I have heard the believers claim that all scientists who doubted Global Warming's man-made connections were paid off by Big Oil. I've also heard that there weren't all that many scientists who doubted it to begin with. The majority of these skeptical scientist worked for the same UN agency that is currently claiming the 'end is near' along with Al Gore. I know that Green technology is a huge burgeoning market where lots of money can be made (sort of like organic foods). Green is more expensive and therefore stands to make money from consumers...and Armageddon is a good way to convince people to spend $25,000 for a car that offers $15,000 car features, but gets better gas mileage (just as one example). I am aware that Climate Shift happens, and is happening (as it has for over 500 million years according to known science). I also know polluting has a negative impact on the environment, and that we should be responsible enough to decrease our pollution. All that said, let's discuss this article. Re: 400 Skeptical Scientists Doubt Man-made Global Warming Claims
I think the media is missing the opportunity (on purpose?) to report on this story for several reasons. First issue is obviously the presidential race heating up, and the Iowa caucus upon us. Second is the mortgage crisis; which isn’t as horrible as some have reported (that’s a long story so I’ll save it). And lastly the UN Climate Conference being upset that the US doesn’t want to impose harsh or immediate caps.
I think this story of skeptics has its place in world events, but it may fall on deaf ears. People; and somehow more importantly, entire nations are so convinced that the world is going to explode because of SUVs, power plants, and factories, no amount of data which proves otherwise will convince them to let up on their war against carbon. I hope that we can use skeptic information like this to moderate the tirade of anti-carbon/pro-green spreading across the globe, but I also know that caps on emissions and green technologies are something we will eventually have to take seriously for one reason or another (oil shortage anyone?). So we may as well start the ground work now in order to prepare for the eventuality of a global oil crisis, and to help curb the effects of pollution on aspects of our environment. Global Warming (Climate Shift) is not going to destroy our world, but our carbon footprint and other pollution factors are still having a negative impact on the environment so need to be handled accordingly. Let’s just hope that we can quiet the extremists (on both sides) and actually come up with workable solutions to the problems at hand. Capping 50% of all emissions by 2015 or 2025 is not a solution when it will cost Trillions of dollars to the taxpayers of our country. But, neither is just sitting around doing nothing about it. |

Re: 400 Skeptical Scientists Doubt Man-made Global Warming Claims
As part of my work, I have to prioritize things constantly. There is no way to avoid all hazards, and there is no way to achieve all goals. I have to go for the highest impact, lowest cost items first.
The point of CO2-AGW skeptics, like me, is that there are several million other things that come way ahead of climate change management. All of the discussion on AGW is a waste of time, energy, people, power, money and even CO2. Fortunately, the world seems to be recovering from UN sponsored delirium. |

Re: 400 Skeptical Scientists Doubt Man-made Global Warming Claims
I agree with that sentiment exactly. Even if some of the science is right that apparently proves water levels will rise 3 feet in the next 100 - 1000 years, how is that a higher priority than genocide, terrorism, basic education, health care, debt, or any other number of international and domestic issues?
Do what we can when we can to cap emissions (based on available funds and technology) and we'll eventually get to where we want on CO2 caps. But there are much more pressing issues that the UN and global community of tax payers, consumers, scientists, teachers, politicians, and all others could be spending their mental and financial energy on. |
