Peru experienced a 7.9 – 8.0 magnitude earthquake yesterday at 6:40pm (7:40pm EDT). The center was located approximately 125 miles SE of Lima “at a depth of about 25 miles”. As per the AP report, there were four strong aftershocks, measuring between 5.4 and 5.9 in magnitude. There were at least 15 aftershocks with strengths of up to 6.3 magnitude.
The quake effects have been devastating as they have claimed the lives of at least 450 people, with more than 1,500 people reported injured. Our prayers go out to these families.
