Saving The World - One Useful Idiot At A Time

Over 15,000 bureaucrats, politicians, officials, and assorted do-gooders from 187 nations descended on the tropical island of Bali last week for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.Their goal? To make a last ditch effort to save the world from the ravages of global warming. The aim is to require industrial nations to limit their emission of C02 to 25-40 percent below 1990 levels by 2020. This is necessary, they proclaim, in order to head off rising oceans, drought, famine, dying species, and, well, just plain catastrophe.

These noble shepherds of the earth are willing to have others make any sacrifice necessary to achieve their laudable goal. They are even willing to make some sacrifices themselves. Starting with the 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions caused by all the private jets used to ferry them to the conference. Not to worry...

Re: Saving The World - One Useful Idiot At A Time

I've written many articles, threads, and responses regarding Global Warming on this site. I'm sure my thoughts on the matter are known, but here it goes anyway:

"Global Warming" a.k.a. Climate Shift has happened many times in the past well before industrialization. And regarding dying species, in the history of the planet over 95% of all the species that have existed have gone extinct. Think about it...

And the average temperature of the earth right now is actually several degrees cooler than it was 100,000 years ago, and we're scientifically still coming out of the last ice age (warming up from it as a matter of obvious fact).

Is pollution a detriment to the environment? Yes.
Should we actively seek more efficient and cleaner ways of producing energy? Yes.

Should we destroy the global economy and disrupt the ability of nations to produce in order to MAYBE reduce the temperature of the earth by 0.5 degrees in the next 50 years? No!

The earth is already in a cycle of hot/cold that it has been in for the last 500 Million years (geologic science/history has shown). And the science backing the Kyoto protocol shows only a 0.5 C difference in Earth's average temperature even IF every nation on the planet abided by every single aspect of the agreement.

In the mean time; while developed nations like the US are killing our economy to meet the demands of cleaner more efficient technology, developing nations don't have to follow the protocols...because they get a free ticket to keep burning in order to become developed. So the nations that are at the most risk of becoming the largest polluters get to keep on doing what they're doing and pumping out more and more CO2 each year.

One last thing; you can't force science and technology. A car engine that gets 500mpg or runs on hydrogen sounds great, but if there is no technology to produce a 500mpg engine or no infrastructure to get a hydrogen powered car across the country then it's all just a pipe dream. No amount of agreements can force industry to create technology and infrastructure that doesn't currently exist on the short timeline needed to curb pollution.

...oh and I can't help myself. The same people who value human life so little that abortion has become almost a past-time are the same ones that are trying to convince us that we meger humans are "killing" the planet. A planet which as survived unthinkable odds over the last 4 billion years. And that the life of the planet (and the Alpino Butterfly) is too precious to be hurt by silly things like turning on your lights at night and driving to work.

Global warming is the religion of the left - so don't expect them to be rational about it.
