Debating

Haven't seen many posts on here lately. Hope everyone is still doing well. Checking out a few political sites this afternoon, I decided to stop by and start a thread.

One of the things I like about this site is that we can have intelligent debate on many topics, and perhaps that is a weakness of the site and why it isn't more popular. Notice the swarms of people on blogs of either political party. Tons of angry posts. Obviously, there isn't a lack of people interested in the subject....but people like reading what reaffirms their own beliefs. I applaud those that visit this site with the goal of communicating with those who actually hold different beliefs. Even if your mission is to sway opinions to your side, there's still discussion being held and hopefully everyone can learn something.

After reading some agitating posts at Michelle Malkin's web site, I came here and clicked over to our most valuable poster, nancyvideo, to read her latest rant. Here it goes:

"How does one debate with a liberal? Sorry, under current rules, debate is not allowed."

See, I thought it was conservatives who didn't allow debate. Or even biased questions. Remember President Bush's staged "town hall meetings" where questions were selected before hand, and they had a bunch of issues with not evening letting registered Democrats in the building? Sure it happens with a lot of politicians, even on the Democrats' debates. It's this "our party is the only true and honest party" mentality that I have a huge problem with.

Nancy does a good job at noticing the techniques that politicians use, but is currently failing the class on how to apply it. For example: "Another pre-emptive defense includes labeling any dissenting view as propaganda which, of course, is unworthy of debate." Have you never heard anyone from the right wing mention the left-wing's propaganda? Come on, now. I know you watch Fox News.

"Another neat trick the left uses to avoid debating inconvenient facts (formerly called corruption, perjury, lies, theft, adultery, etc.) is to cry foul and whine about being taken out of context." Rush Limbaugh, anyone? Just one example.

Nancy then goes on to complain about how she got banned from the Daily Kos for offering a different opinion (happens all the time with sites like Michelle Malkin's). Nancy, please! Come back here....you won't be banned, that's the whole point of this forum.

And here's the real kicker: "This experience was repeated on other liberal forums. To date, I have yet to find a liberal who will debate an issue on the facts. With the one exception of my lovely niece, Sarah."

Well, my name's not Sarah, nor am I your niece. So stop lying! Seriously, cut it out. You removed a post because of the facts I presented to you, and you still have the audacity to say something like this?

Come back to this forum and debate me like a grown up. Like the Savior to Humanity that you seem to think you are. I've advertised for you quite enough, it's the least you could do to repay me.

Here's a free advertisement for you, so hopefully you'll see that you got a hit or two from this web site and will click over to see what we said about you.

Re: Debating

tROCO,

Thanks for pointing out what this forum is really about. The idea behind this site was to allow people to freely express their views without being insulting to others. I've visited other sites (like the Malkin site and the Huffington Post) and I think that what is posted on those sites can be revolting at times.

Things have been a little slow recently. It's partially because of the more subdued nature of the site, but it's also because I haven't been able to dedicate the appropriate amount of time to keep this thing going. It's only a part time undertaking for me.

I do appreciate reading your posts as well as those of some of our other members. Visceral has been away for a while, but I hope he starts posting again.

If you have friends or know of others that are open to this kind of discussion, feel free to spread the word.

Best of luck,

Political Informer
