Question Battle for the 2nd Amendment

Second-Amendment Showdown - WSJ.com

Do you believe that the 2nd Amendment actually only pertains to organized groups (militias) or does it also pertain to the individual?

Do you think that banning gun ownership across the nation would reduce violent crime rates?

Read the article first and then let me know what you think.

Re: Battle for the 2nd Amendment

I think it pertains to both, but I can see how easily this can turn around and make it so that only organized groups can have guns. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

I own guns and I am a big advocate of gun ownership, so this case is a bit scary.

It may well turn out that gun owners will have to belong to groups to be able to keep their guns.

Interesting...

That is the important question isn't it?

If the government bans all guns and cracked down, guns will still find its way into the hands of criminals.

If guns were not regulated by the government, they would still find its way into the hands of criminals.

The United States has fairly lax gun laws and a comparatively large gun supply (legal and non legal) compared to other developed nations. We also have more violent crimes to go along with our larger supply. History has shown that gun availability doesn't spontaneously vanish (think Somalia).

In my opinion, we're pretty much screwed no matter what we do.
