Re: President Bush's Conference
I am torn with the current situation. On one hand I think that the president shouldn't pressure the House into passing bills that he wants, while shooting down (veto) their (the Democrats) bills.
On the other hand I don't think the president should have to 'encourage' or force the House to pass bills the president deems necessary for the security and welfare of the people...they should want to do it. Especially in the world we live in today. I wish that the House could see what the president sees as victory in Iraq with the success of what is going on over here...and in that way support any bills that allow for further success in Iraq. I also wish the House could see that the president is trying to keep the bills separate and organized to limit extra spending if the bills start to group together into larger bills. I guess the House (and Senate) are only concerned with an immediate troop withdrawal and not focusing on the other bills need attention. I know some of you will throw back the presidents vetoes of other domestic and war related bills, but hey my conservative opinion is that the House and Senate are on the anti-war path and won't be bothered with issues of the people. President Bush needs to be firm with the Dems and should keep them on their toes. That's checks and balances for you. He also needs to stand his ground and be decisive in his goals while the House and Senate debate whether or not to make decisions in the first place. |
