$599 = $499 in the “Apple” world

When the new iPhones came out, I thought that the people who were willing to pay the $599 price tage were crazy. I mean, the phone is nice, but really $599 . . . not that nice. However, now I think that Apple and Steve Job are even crazier.

After only 10 weeks of the iPhone release, it seems that Apple announced that it was going to lower the price of the iPhone by $200. It is believed that it is doing this in order to boost sales for the upcoming holiday season. When “early adapters” (marketing-talk) got wind of this news, they immediately starting sending complaint emails. So what did Apple/Jobs do? They said sorry and offered them $100 back. So basically, if you paid the $599 and you still have your receipt, you will get a $100 rebate. If you do not have your receipt, you will get $100 in store credit.

I cannot believe that Apple is doing this. The way I see it, the people who spent $599 and stood in those obnoxiously long lines for this phone do not deserve any money back. They knew that the price of this phone would come down soon, but they still needed to have this new toy. Sorry – but you were willing to pay the $599 for the bragging rights. In all reality, Apple should never have priced it so high and should have seen this reaction coming. All in all, I really think that Apple’s decision is a bad one and one they will soon regret.

Thoughts?
