Working in the fast-food industry is never easy or glamorous. Now it seems that if you are a drive-thru clerk, you may become the victim of a new prank – “Fire in the Hole”.
Typically, players drive up to the drive-through window, throw the drink that they just purchased back at the clerk while yelling “Fire in the Hole” and drive away. Many of these incidents have been showing up on YouTube. However, it seems that now some drivers/players are now bringing their own concoctions. There is a surveillance tape posted on You Tube [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3YmOXZ97xs] that shows a North Huntingdon clerk being hit on the face with what the clerk feels was a load of hot sauce. It actually burned his eyes for about 15 minutes and then he was okay. The police are involved in this case and are looking for the driver. http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2007/08/if-youre-curiou.html |

Re: "Fire in the Hole"
This prank is escalating and needs to be stopped before someone is hurt in a serious manner. YouTube is as guilty as those doing the pranking for hosting these videos on their site. I wrote Youtube asking them to consider removing "fire in the hole" videos from their site. Their response:
"Thanks for your email. We rely on our community to police the site and "flag" videos deemed inappropriate based on our Terms of Use (YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.). This will allow us to maintain a safe and healthy community for everyone. If you've found material offensive and it violates the terms of use, please use the flagging feature beneath the video. It will bring it to our attention immediately." Nice not have to lift a finger, Youtube. Sure, we'll go in and watch the several dozen fire in the hole videos (number expanding daily) and flag each and every one for you while your company doesn't have to take a stand for anything. And that's exactly what I did too. More people need to do this. |

Re: "Fire in the Hole"
I commend you for taking a stand against YouTube. I think that it is a horrible medium and kids will do whatever it takes in order to have a million hits on their video. I used to this YouTube was a cool concept but with all that has been shown on there, I have changed my mind.

Re: "Fire in the Hole"
As of today (Aug 10, 2007), YouTube has decided to remove "fire in the hole" videos from their website. I think it is a commendable action on their part and will discourage this prank from continuing since those who partake in it will no longer have an audience. Thank you YouTube!
