Rallies For Change -- Tonight
"Everthing Barack predicted has come to pass"
Andrew is a Brooklyn supporter who is attending one of 17 "Rallies for Change" happening across the country tonight. Amid the other ralliers on the steps of Brooklyn's Borough Hall, Andrew will have a unique perspective: he was actually there, in Downtown Chicago, five years ago when Barack famously stood his ground and spoke out against the Iraq War. "It was one of the first anti-war rallies in Chicago...we didn't even understand the importance of what was being said," Andrew said. Tonight's rally should be of a different tenor, and Andrew will be checking in with us afterwards with photos and a recap of the night's event. Then down in Nashville, Giselle -- a stay-at-home mom who helps run a small business in construction with her husband -- is also rallying for change tonight. She describes herself as "more of a liberatarian," politically, but says that for her, "It's the man, not the party, that matters." Like Andrew, she was introduced to Barack in 2002, on NPR's Tavis Smiley show. "I was thrilled by him, so I went out and bought Dreams of my Father and I was very impressed with him, both as an author and an activist." Giselle will be at the Nashville Centennial Bandshell, and also plans to check back in with us later on. And clear across the country, Tatsue in Colorado will be attending yet another "Rally for Change" at the Veteran's Monument in Pueblo. She's been raising money for Barack since he announced his candidacy -- she just hit her $1000 goal -- and she's been doing it selling one candy bar at a time. Tatsue is passionate about Barack Obama, and for good reason: five years ago she was diagnosed with lupus, and has subsequently been shut out of the health insurance system. She's disabled now and she supports Barack because she knows she can trust him to stand up and do what's right. Tonight people are coming together, inspired by the consistent voice of courage and reason they find in Barack Obama, and it's happening at the grassroots: in Pueblo, CO; in Nashville, TN; in Brooklyn, NY; and in fourteen other cities across America. Check back in later tonight for a recap of the night's events. BarackObama.com | Rally to End the War -- Canvass to Bring Our Troops Home |
